……….I have to say this that we never talk about the hate crimes in Pakistan, honor killings, rape vicitms and kind of attitude we have towards women. We (men) always have the right to choose and do what we want, but we never even encourage our women to practice their rights. For example we wear jeans and shorts listem to westerm music and some times dance to it, BUT in middle class socities we don’t wan’t our sisters doing so. Often we get angry at them. First what comes to our minds is what will our friends say (Please stop hanging out with sick people). We respect women only in form of our sisters and mothers. We should not be judgemental and ignorant at the same time. I have read blogs where she as been called names.
As for holding the flag, there is no where (Atleast i could not find, correct me if I am wrong) written in our constitution that she cannot do that. If you talking about moral values, then keep your moral values to your self, don’t impose them on our nation. As Pakistan is a FREE country. I think GOD is more unhappy with MULLAH’s then Non-muslims. Even non-muslims are a creation of GOD. Pakistanies are the most talented muslims in the world, we are proud of the fact. Arn’t we the only nuclear power muslim country. We had a MUSLIM WOMEN prime minister how many muslim or christian countries had that (rem there are more then 160 countries in the world). Even the USA has not had a women President yet. Be it Science and Technology, Spirituality, Literature we have shown talent. What some of us lack is tolerance.

well i have lived all my life out of pakistan. i come from a very open and “modern” family. i am not agianst bikinis or anything as i happen 2 wear them to. and before anyone jumps on that, i am not parading around in one with a pakistani flag calling my self “MISS PAKISTAN”. whatever happens and however much PAKSITAN becomes “modern” at the end of the day it is pakistan. to become modern isnt to wear as little clothes as possible. its not it our culture or in our religion. and to have pakistan represented by someone who has probably never even been there, is absurd. if there should be a MISS PAKISTAN, i would rather see her wearing shalwar kameez, which i find much more attractive looking than a bikini.

No one from Pakistan ever participated in a Miss World/Miss Universe pagent. This was to reinforce the concept that Pakistan being a Muslim country; even with the fashion and culture presently; will not let that aspect be embedded into the frame and network of the society living there.. What I dont get is the fact that when PAKISTANI women dnt step up to that aspect of life living in that country; even though they might do modelling/acting/showbusiness; why is it done if a girl/woman is brought up or moves to a foreign country.. people think that by standing up infront of thousands of men wearing little clothes is liberating.. NO.. its nothing but lack of dignity in every aspect of life.. Pakistan doesnt need a girl in the STATES to represent it.. If we really wanted a pagent I think we are capable of holding that in pakistan, plus i think we have very beautiful girls in pakistan.. better looking than her atleast..

Sorry! I din’t mean to step on your tail. But I am not the one to dictate what should be done or not. All I am saying that don’t dictate your moral values on others. Religion is a personal thing. Who the Hell are we to decide what she should do or not do. As for bounds, there are no bounds, only morals that men in the society creates. I don’t want to debate on Islam as my knowledge is not complete, it takes a Life Time to study this religion and understand it completely. Quran is in Arabic and not all muslims can understand it, they only read it and plus so many interpretations(Alaysuna,Alayhadis,Shias,Ahmedes,AghaKhanies, Wahabies….etc).

Sasha I thought you will also mention about the Phusto Movies. The semi-nude posters of these movies on walls and in cinema houses. Hi As a Pakistani muslim who has spent their life in the west but has been brought up with strong pakistani values. I understand the arguments presented by everyone, for example that this is against Islam. But you should also appreciate that in the UK and other European countries, muslims are in the media all the time because we do not integrate etc. Whereas Indians and other asians blend into western societies. I believe that we
need to change, our perception of women need to change. I have visited pakistan on two occasions, and was dismayed by all of the talent that was going to waste. Women are told that they need to stay at home, get married and have children. That needs to change if Pakistani’s want their country to change and we need to get rid of the imam’s who preach hatred. Islam is a religion of peace and women are also given the same rights as men. If this is a step towards letting go of those values that are cultural then relaigious then so be it. If she wants to wear a bikini that is her choice. So what if she does not represent a nation that is full of hypocrites and are so wrapped into what other people think. The main thing is she should be proud to be a Pakistani. I think you people need to understand it is only a pageant. Look how they are a big thing in India, Ashwariya Rai has made her mark in the west. I think that Pakistani women should be allowed to do this if they would like to.

I dont understand, how is a woman so called “liberated” by exposing herself in a pageant. How is she representing her nation? I agree that times have moved on and Pakistan shouldn’t be moving backwards but instead it should be moving forward. But not in such a way. Pakistan won’t progress if girl’s start parading in bikini’s. It won’t help Pakistan in any way. How does a girl in Bikini change the situations in Pakistan? How does it help the blackouts we have every now and then? How does it help the broken roads in Karachi? How does it help the water problems? How does it help the poor people? Let me tell you.. it doesn’t!
She may be Pakistani but she isn’t doing a very good job of representing Pakistan. We don’t model in bikini’s. We model in Shalwar Kameez and our other traditional clothes such as Ghagra’s and Churidaar’s. Yes, I know that to be in a fashion show it is mandatory that you present yourself in a bikini but hello? you can better represent yourself and your country in other shows than fashion shows. Then again, ever heard of the word “no”? If you’re representing your country in a fashion show, atleast represent it the way it is or just don’t represent at all. Charity shows are great for representing your country and you know what.. you don’t even have to present yourself in a bikini in that =O shocker, isn’t it?
We should move on and help Pakistan progress in a good way. In a way that makes Pakistan and Pakistanis better! Not by losing touch with our traditions and cultures. I do believe that some traditions and cultures should be put behind us because this is a new generation. We should lose some old traditions which cannot apply to us in this generation anymore. The type where different genders cannot talk to each other. But some traditions and cultures are still quite important.
I encourage people not to insult each other over this matter. I read an earlier comment which was directed to Amber. I think the only reason she ever commented was to HELP not to insult anyone and yes she does have every right to be on this site because this is the site for Pakistanis.
We shouldn’t forget what Pakistan stands for. “Pak” means Pure and Clean. So let’s keep it clean and pure because Bikini’s are not the way to represent.

As far as entering pageants is concerned, I don’t really agree with it. Not because the women are wearing ’shameful’ clothes according to majority, but because pageants portray women as mere objects of beauty, and nothing else.
Women are being spat on, shoved and abused by the ‘mullahs’ out on the streets. Can’t a woman leave the house alone just to go to the market? Who has the right to stop her from doing so if the men in her family have allowed her too?
Religion is everyones personal business. If I do wrong, God will punish me. No one else has the right too. I just feel God will probably punish all the people here who have abused Miss. Pakistan. That’s an interesting solution. Men are really the root of the problem. If they had to go through any of the injustices that us women have to face, they’d all probably commit suicide. Anita Ayub could have been a much better and decent choice for Ms World a few years back but she was intimidated to quit the contest. The contest organisers should concentrate more on personality traits like mannerism, spoken skills and attitude alongwith figure, but unfortunately only physique is emphasized which tends to underestimate the true personal perspective of many nice ladies from Pakistan. However, a properly-clad lady looks more elegant and graceful than a semi-clad lady as personality is a combination of lot of things-physique just one of them.

Coming to the point, I am a Muslim, and I am a Pakistani. And whether girls like to go out with boys is not of your concern. You speak for yourself only. My point was, that if boys are doing it, why can’t girls? I’m not justifying dating or anything. I put forward the question: Why are girls not treated as equals?
